Nura Laird, M.Ed.
Nura has been a student of Sufism since 1977 and a student of Sidi Muhammad al Jamal, a recently deceased shaykh and imam from Al Aqsa Mosque, since 1997.
Trained as an educator, she has taught children at almost all levels. She co-founded two alternative schools for children, one of which has been thriving since 1977. She is a senior professor at the University of Sufism’s Department of Peacemaking in the Sufi Way.
Nura runs a private practice in spiritual and energetic healing since 1992, and now in Sufi healing with individuals, couples, and families.
In addition, Nura is a mediator, applying her unique peacemaking methods that integrate Sufi healing practices and Sufi family constellations along with conventional mediation.
Nura and Wadude currently reside in Asheville, N.C., USA

Dr. Laird has been a student of Sufism and Sufi Healing for forty five years. During that time he
has co-founded or played a strong supportive role in launching multiple organizations,
including two Sufi spiritual communities, the Raphaelite Institute, the Jaffe Institute, the
University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism, Great Smokies Medical Center, and Genova Diagnostics
Medical Lab.
Currently, he serves on the tariqa’s Murshid Council. In addition to his active healing practice,
Dr. Laird provides advanced medical advocacy services for patients with cancer and other
serious illnesses.
When Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal gave Dr. Laird the name “wadude,” the Shaykh said, “Wadude
is the one who brings the deep love of God to the people.”
Wadude and his beloved Nura married in 1969. Their daughters Sahra and Kamela are luminous
teachers and healers in their own right.
